In a 180-degree turn, the city of Monterey has rescinded the decision to fire Gaudenz Panholzer and asked him to remain as Monterey’s fire chief with Panholzer agreeing to do so.
“I can say, yes, yesterday (acting City Manager Hans Uslar) had a conversation with me and said he wanted to rescind the decision and asked me if I’d stay on and I said yes,” said Panholzer on Thursday. “I’m pleased with the decision and happy he has the confidence in me to continue to be the chief for Monterey and all of our partners.”
Uslar said the city was pleased Panholzer agreed to stay on.
