PETA honors Bakersfield firefighters with Compassionate Fire Department

Bakersfield City Fire Department is a recent recipient of PETA's Compassionate Fire Department Award. City fire is responsible for the rescue of Jack, who firefighters saved from a house fire and resuscitated. The fire broke out on July 19 in the 4600 block of Quarter Avenue in Southwest Bakersfield. When firefighters arrived, the homeowners had evacuated but the dog was still inside. Fire crews retrieved Jack, but he was suffering from smoke inhalation. Jack was resuscitated and taken Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital. At last update, firefighters said Jack had made significant improvements.
