After a two day sentencing hearing, Zane Peterson was sentenced to 44 years in state prison by Shasta County Judge Tamara Wood.
Peterson pleaded guilty to 22 felony counts stemming from a series of fires he ignited between September and November of 2013.
The most serious of these fires was the September 9, 2013 “Clover” Fire, which burned over 8,000 acres, destroyed numerous homes, and killed Brian Henry.
The 44-year sentence imposed by Judge Wood was the maximum allowable under the plea agreement. Because Peterson's charges are considered violent felonies under California state law, he will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
