While battling a brush fire that erupted Sunday in the Santa Ana River bottom, firefighters found an illegal medical waste dump which included used syringes preventing crews from entering the area to battle the blaze, Redlands Fire Department said in a Facebook post.
The fire was still burning Monday morning, according to Carl Baker, spokesman for the City of Redlands, and an investigation into the dumping cannot be launched until it is completely out.
Despite the safety hinderance, crews managed to get the fire 100 percent contained. The fire had reportedly burned through about 13 acres.
