A former deputy chief of the San Gabriel Fire Department will come out of retirement to become its chief, the city announced Wednesday.
Derrick Doehler, a 19-year veteran of the SGFD, retired in 2016.
“I’m happy to be back, and I’m extremely proud to serve the City of San Gabriel,” Doehler said in a statement released by the city.
Doehler, 50, succeeds fire Chief Mario Rueda, and will assume his new duties immediately
