Flags at all Kern County fire stations will be lowered to half-staff in memory of Engineer Brian Massey, who died after a medical event Saturday night at his home.
Massey, 56, had been fighting fires in Kern County for 27 years, beginning in Taft in 1990. He joined the Kern County Fire Department in 2007.
To honor Massey's memory, Fire Chief Brian Marshall has ordered flags at all county fire stations to be flown at half-staff until the day of his funeral. Massey is survived by his three children, girlfriend of 17 years and parents.
His death will be considered a line-of-duty death, according to the Fire Department.
