Kern County firefighters on Thursday kept flames from spreading and damaging more of a $40 million pistachio and almond processing facility northwest of Lost Hills. When firefighters arrived, all employees working at the facility were found safe and unharmed. The fire burned the insulation between an exterior and interior wall. It was started by a welding operation.
The fire was contained to a portion of one wall, saving the rest of the 83,000-square-foot building.
The damage is estimated to be between $500,000 and $750,000 worth of property.
