A sixth firefighter was injured Wednesday morning while battling a wildfire burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains east of Boulder Creek, which so far has destroyed four structures and threatened about 150 homes.
As of Wednesday morning, containment of the Bear Fire doubled from 5 to 10 percent, and Cal Fire officials said they expect that number to increase as the day progresses. The fire, burning in steep terrain, has consumed 271 acres.
The firefighter injured Wednesday morning suffered burns to his hands and was being treated a hospital, according to Cal Fire spokeswoman Angela Bernheisel. Early reports indicate the burns are second-degree, and the firefighter should be OK.
Tuesday, five firefighters suffered minor to moderate injuries traversing the steep terrain.
