Containment of the 320-acre wildfire burning in the Santa Cruz mountains doubled overnight, from 15 to 30 percent, and firefighters may get additional help late Thursday with rain in the forecast.
The overnight improvement announced Thursday morning by Cal Fire also resulted in some evacuation orders being lifted for the Bear Fire. Residents can go back to the Las Cumbres and Skyline Boulevard communities, as well as areas south of Bear Creek Road, according to Cal Fire. Two Red Cross evacuation centers, at Lakeside Elementary School in Los Gatos and at the Zayante Fire Station in Felton, will remain open until all residents are allowed to return home, spokeswoman Cynthia Shaw said.
