This wildfire season has burned hundreds of thousands of acres in Northern California alone. Now, there’s a plan in place for preventing future flames. The Klamath Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (Klamath TREX) is an annual two-week training in the use of controlled burning in the Western Klamath Mountains to reduce the future danger of wildfires. This year it will run from Oct. 2 to Oct. 15. According to Klamath TREX, combined funding and resources from tribal, local and federal partners are helping bring in more participants to deliver good fire to larger landscape. Officials said this training event blends traditional native burning with western science to restore fire processes directly around communities where it is needed most.
