The Canyon Fire is 75 percent contained, Orange County Fire Authority officials announced Friday morning, with full containment expected Sunday. “Fire activity is minimal,” a statement from the fire agency said. “Firefighters continue to build and reinforce fire line, mop up hot spots and patrol the fire perimeter.” After officials used GPS mapping, it was determined the fire had consumed 2,662 acres in the foothills south of the 91 Freeway between Corona and Anaheim, up from the previous estimate of 2,000 acres. The fire fight Wednesday and Thursday was mostly focused on air attacks as most of the active flames moved deeper into the Cleveland National Forest. Firefighters asked that the public avoid use of Skyline Drive because heavy equipment is being used in the area.
