A former Cal Fire firefighter was sentenced to 15 years and four months in prison Monday on charges of raping an acquaintance.
Jake Schlegel, 35, of Sonora, pleaded guilty last month after reaching a plea agreement with the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office.
At that hearing, District Attorney Laura Krieg said Schlegel entered a Main Street Jamestown residence and forcibly raped an unconscious female victim, who awoke during the assault. His fingerprints were found on an outside window used to enter the residence, she added.
Schlegel had been employed since 2002 as a Firefighter 1 in Cal Fire’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, a seasonal position that allows employees to work a maximum of nine months out of the year. He was fired after the arrest.
