Firefighters used the Jaws of Life and a reciprocating saw on Tuesday, April 3, to free a 5 –year-old girl’s hand that got stuck in an escalator at Brea Mall.
Her hand became trapped shortly before 11:15 a.m. in the escalator’s railing outside of Sears, Fullerton-Brea Fire Department Division Chief Kathy Schaefer said.
The girl, who was with her grandfather, was freed at 11:42 a.m., Schaefer said. He said the child’s hand and fingers were intact.
She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. Details about her condition were not immediately available.
Members of the Brea, Fullerton, Anaheim fire departments and Orange County Fire Authority responded.
