Riverside County firefighters Monday night worked to contain a brush fire that grew to 20.7 acres in the hills northwest of Lake Mathews, according to Cal Fire.
Initial multiple reports came in at 6:18 p.m. Monday about a fire burning in light grass south of the 16000 block of Village Meadow Drive. The fire, dubbed the Meadow fire, was being held by a road and was 60 percent contained by about 10:35 p.m., according to fire officials.
Shortly before 8 p.m., all aircraft assisting on the fire were released.
The location of the fire was later updated to Tin Mine Road, north of Cajalco Expressway, in Lake Mathews. There are no housing developments near the fire. By about 9:40 p.m. the forward rate of spread of the fire had been stopped, Cal Fire Riverside said.
