Firefighters with four fire departments got a vegetation fire at Talbert Regional Park in Costa Mesa under control Sunday afternoon and were mopping up the area to prevent flare ups, officials said.
The fire broke out just before 11 a.m. near the BMX track and grew to about five acres, officials said. The cause was under investigation.
The Costa Mesa Fire Department received assistance from the Orange County Fire Authority, Huntington Beach and Newport Beach Fire Departments in containing the fire. About 30 to 40 firefighters were called in to work the blaze, said Costa Mesa Fire Capt. Chris Coates.
“We’re making good progress,” Coates said.
An OCFA helicopter was called in to assist with water drops, Coates said.
No evacuations were reported and one firefighter suffered a minor, non-threatening injury, the department said.
