Fire Chief Mike O’Brien is hanging up his firefighting gear after 22 years of service. “It has been very interesting and enjoyable,” O’Brien said of his time leading Suisun City’s volunteer firefighters. “I will miss the people most of all,” O’Brien said. “The volunteers and the volunteer spirit.” O’Brien said he is pleased that 25 percent of his volunteers have gone on to paid firefighting jobs and that the Suisun City Fire Department has a good reputation with its training and experience. “That is a big part that I am really proud of,” O’Brien said. His last day on the job at the Suisun City Fire Department will be May 3, but his retirement day is May 7, “because it’s also my birthday and that makes it easy to remember,” O’Brien said with a chuckle.
