Novato fire officials have extended a tentative job offer to Battalion Chief Bill Tyler to serve as the city’s next fire chief. The offer, which is conditional pending contract negotiations this week with the Novato Fire District Board of Directors, is scheduled for a vote on at a special board meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 22. The meeting will be held at Fire Station 61 at 7025 Redwood Blvd. “Nothing is official until the board completes negotiations and then votes to approve the contract and appointment on the 22nd,” outgoing fire Chief Mark Heine said in an email Monday. Heine said the board interviewed Tyler, the district fire marshal, for four hours Friday before extending the offer, which Tyler accepted. Fire marshals typically handle fire investigations and code enforcement, among other duties. “The recruitment process was internal only,” Heine said.
