Hundreds of firefighters are continuing efforts to mop up a destructive 100 acre brush fire which destroyed 13 homes, and damaged three others on the South Coast. The Holiday Fire in the foothills north of Goleta is 80% contained, with full containment projected for Wednesday. All evacuation orders from the Friday night have been lifted, but some areas are open to residents only. Santa Barbara County is opening what it’s calling a Local Assistance and Recovery Center for fire victims. It will be open at least Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and longer if needed. It’s at the Goleta Union School District Offices. In addition to the 13 homes destroyed, 15 outbuildings like barns and sheds were lost. Firefighters say they are grateful people heeded evacuation orders, and they say as a result there were no deaths or serious injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
