A firefighter part of a crew battling a blaze in Coyote Creek on Wednesday morning narrowly escaped injury when a motorist crashed into the back of a parked fire engine on Capitol Expressway, authorities said. The firefighter was moving cones on the roadway when a Nissan Altima slammed into the back of the fire engine on Capitol near Tuers Road, San Jose police officer Gina Tepoorten said. “I’m happy to report it was a near miss, which means no injuries,” San Jose fire Capt. Mitch Matlow said. Matlow added the firefighter was “shaken” following the close call. The driver of the Nissan Altima, who was cut free from the wreckage by firefighters, did not suffer life-threatening issues but was rushed to a hospital following the wreck, Tepoorten said. Crews needed hydraulic tools to free him.
