Several homes in Paso Robles were temporarily evacuated Wednesday after an approximately 60-acre brush fire broke out in the 4200 block of Buena Vista Drive near the airport. Cal Fire reported the blaze was caused by someone mowing their lawn nearby. Cal Fire spokesman Chris Elms said the combination of high temperatures, low humidity and extremely dry grass in the area made for dangerous mowing conditions. It was one of five mower-caused fires in San Luis Obispo County over the last two weeks, he said. Elms strongly encouraged residents to use brush-cutters rather than lawn mowers with metal blades that can strike rocks and create sparks.
