The Salinas firefighters' union announced on Friday that they are close to reaching an agreement with the county regarding the continuation of paramedic services.
Salinas Firefighters Local 1270 held a press conference in front of city hall on Friday, addressing the future of the city's paramedic program.
Josh Hostetter, president of the Salinas Firefighters Association, said an agreement between the city and Monterey County Emergency Medical Services Agency was set to expire this month but was granted an extension.
Karen Smith, public information officer for the Monterey County Health Department, said the paramedic agreement was extended late Thursday and sets the new deadline until July 31, pending approval from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.
Smith could not confirm whether an agreement with the fire department was close to being finalized.
