Woodland’s Fire Station No. 3 lost its favorite mascot, a wild turkey named Firebird. But department staff are warning community members to stay away from missing bird if sighted.
“The bird is aggressive,” warned Fire Chief Rebecca Ramirez. “It’s run after our own personnel. We’re mostly concerned that a citizen might want to trap or capture the bird and get hurt in the process.”
Woodland Fire Station 3 is a common turkey hangout since is located near an open space. There are a number of birds around the station, but only Firebird has made a point of getting up close to the engines and firefighters. No one feeds or manages the turkeys, Ramirez noted, but firefighters do clean up the messes they make.
