One person is dead after a head-on crash between a Shasta County Cal Fire utility truck and another vehicle around 2:14 p.m. Friday on Highway 99, just south of Anita Road.
Officials said the Cal Fire truck was heading north and a Geo Prizm was traveling south when they collided. The California Highway Patrol's preliminary investigation shows that the elderly man driving the Prizm drifted off onto the right hand shoulder, ran over a sign, over corrected, went through the median, and then drove into the northbound lane, colliding head-on with the Cal Fire truck. Officials said the elderly man driving the Geo Prizm died on scene and the two people in the Cal Fire truck were transported with minor and moderate injuries.
