A wildfire burning on Santa Cruz Island had consumed 250 acres as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to National Parks Service spokeswoman Yvonne Menard. The wind-driven incident was first reported around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and spread about 100 acres in a matter of hours. Menard said the blaze was primarily burning vegetation as of Wednesday morning and was threatening no structures. However, 30 people were evacuated from the island Tuesday as a precaution. Three air tankers were due to join the firefight as of 8 a.m in addition to about 60 fire personnel from Santa Barbara County, Los Padres National Forest and Sequoia National Forest. Menard said three additional hot-shot crews were requested Wednesday and could arrive Thursday.
