After some difficulty reaching it, Riverside firefighters put out a fire that mostly destroyed the interior of a single-family home and left an adult resident and a dog displaced, the Fire Department said Wednesday, March 28.
The fire was reported just before 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, in the area of Jones and Arlington avenues. But while firefighters who arrived at the scene saw smoke, they had trouble reaching the source. Fire crews discovered the blaze was actually on in the 6800 block of nearby Gaylord Street.
There were still problems getting to the fire, though, since the structure was set back off the street about 300 feet. That meant crews had to use ladders to scale a fence to get to the burning structure while a gate was forced open.
