Several firefighters were honored during the annual Redding Fire Department Awards and Recognition Ceremony, Thursday morning.
Firefighters received awards for their years of service, reclassification's, community service, and one very special firefighter was named firefighter of the year.
Chosen by his fellow firefighters, Mike Ham was named firefighter of the year for his outstanding commitment to his job and his community.
Ham said receiving this award was humbling and an honor.
"It is a truly humbling experience to be selected, let alone voted by my peers as the firefight of the year," said Ham. "Everybody in this department is truly deserving of the award."
In 2017, Ham was one of the top responders from the Redding Fire Department, with 1,240 responses, nearly nine percent of the departments total calls for the year.
