A fire on a 60-foot fishing boat, apparently sparked by a malfunctioning refrigerator, was extinguished early Wednesday morning by lifeguards and firefighters at a Mission Bay marina, officials said.
Fire boats and fire engines responded to a 911 call about the fire at the Dana Marina on West Mission Bay Drive near Dana Landing Road around 1 a.m., said San Diego Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Mónica Muñoz. Crews found smoke coming from the lower cabin of the Pacific Sport fishing boat.
No one was on board, and firefighters worked to keep the flames from spreading on the boat and to other vessels in the marina. Coast Guard workers also responded to help address potential pollution issues, she said.
Fire investigators believe the blaze started in a refrigerator circuit in the lower cabin of the vessel, Muñoz said.
