El Cajon police arrested an arson suspect in El Cajon early Tuesday morning.
Police caught the man in the process of starting a fire in the 600 block of South Mollison Avenue.
A citizen was driving down Mollison when he smelled smoke and saw a dumpster on fire up against the wall of an apartment complex. He called the police and when they arrived they caught the man in the act of setting another fire nearby, in the parking lot of a strip mall, in a dumpster.
The man was taken into custody and officers recovered three lighters, which they retained as evidence. El Cajon police have not released his name.
According to police, they're trying to determine if he's responsible for a series of fires in the area.
