A firefighter battling the Woolsey fire was struck by a civilian vehicle early Thursday morning in Malibu, sending the first responder to the hospital, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
The firefighter, only identified as being in his 40s and from Washington state, was on Pacific Coast Highway near Deer Creek Road around 12:10 a.m. when he was hit, officials said. Paramedics flew the man to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. The extent of his injuries were not released but authorities said they were not life-threatening.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the driver stayed on scene. The CHP is conducting the investigation into the crash.
