A fire truck involved in two wrecks this week is out of commission, though officials say its absence won't negatively affect service.
A Nevada County Consolidated Fire Protection District engine was involved in a Monday wreck near Banner Lava Cap and Success Cross roads. The second wreck occurred Tuesday on the Dorsey Drive overpass, authorities said.
"The engine is out of service now," Deputy Fire Chief Jerry Funk said. "We're not even sure of the extent of the damage."
The fire district has five reserve engines, one of which has taken the place of the defunct fire truck. No disruption in service will occur, Funk said.
The deputy chief estimated it would take two to three weeks before the engine returns to service.
In the first wreck, a vehicle's side mirror sideswiped the fire truck, causing minimal damage. The suspect, who hit another car about a mile east of the fire engine, was taken to a Roseville hospital, cited and released, said Officer Brant Hardin, with the California Highway Patrol.
