Crews Battle 30-Acre Wildfire In East San Jose; 2 Firefighters Injured

Fire crews are at the scene of a growing wildfire burning in the hills of East San Jose early Sunday evening, according to authorities. Cal Fire tweeted about the fire burning at Quimby Road and Borden Drive shortly after 5 p.m. The fire had already burned 25 acres at that point. The fire, being called the Quimby Fire, is drawing a major response from Cal Fire and area fire departments including air support. Two firefighters were injured battling the fire and were taken to local hospitals after suffering minor injuries. At 7:17 p.m. Sunday evening, CAL Fire reported that the fire was 50% contained and had grown to more than 30 acres large. Firefighters had stopped the forward progress of the blaze. San Jose Fire Capt. Brad Cloutier confirmed that the fire was under control as of 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening. No one else was injured in the fire besides the two firefighters and no structures were damaged.
