Big Bear has grown and with the growth comes an increasing demand on the Valley’s infrastructure. That includes the community’s fire department. Maintaining an adequate level of service requires change, and change comes with a price tag. Big Bear Fire Chief Jeff Willis, along with members of the department, spent the better part of 2018 reaching out to the Big Bear community to determine what level of service the community desires. Willis, during three town hall meetings in late fall, provided information and asked and answered questions. He provided four options, ranging from do nothing to an annual parcel tax of up to $240 to fund increases in personnel and equipment to meet the needs. Following the town hall meetings, the next step was evaluating the input and making a decision on where to go from there.
