Police have geared their duty belts with Narcan, the life saving overdose drug, but with drug related calls on the rise, firefighters in Redding will start using it as well.
At least 60 percent of the calls firefighters with the Redding Fire Department respond to are medical. Out of those, Redding Fire Chief Cullen Kreider says they respond to a drug related call at least once a day which is why firefighters will soon begin carrying Narcan.
"We had a call in 2017 where a woman came home and found her husband down. He was actually making some pills with a product called Bromadol, which is a very potent drug, more potent than even Fentanyl and Heroin," Chief Kreider said.
He explained there are drugs his firefighters come across on calls that are even worse than Fentanyl.
Bromadol is reported to be 1,000 times more potent than Fentanyl and 10,000 times more potent than Morphine.
