PHOTOS: Kern County firefighters managed to rescue a puppy and two cats from a burning home last weekend in Taft. On March 23, the Kern County Fire Department received reports of a house on fire near the 27000 block of North Lincoln Street. Just after 12:55 a.m., crews arrived on scene to a burning single-story house with flames in the front of the building. After a short inspection, a fire captain determined the house was 50% involved in fire and possibly active power lines had fallen nearby. Firefighters had to shuttle the water engine by engine, due to the distance of the nearest fire hydrant. A puppy and two cats were brought to safety by firefighters, officials said. The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents. No injuries were reported.
