Wayne Brown found an unwelcome surprise when he got back to the small home he rents in Fort Morgan: Lots of smoke pouring from both the front and back doors at 218 W. Seventh Ave."I opened the front door and saw a lot of smoke," he said. "I saw smoke mostly coming from the back bedroom in the basement. There was a bunch of stuff down there."Brown had only lived in the home for two days before the fire happened. But neighbors saw and smelt the smoke and called 911, which brought firetrucks to the scene only minutes after Brown got home and found the fire.As fire crews began battling the blaze, they sprayed water in through basement windows and donned oxygen tanks to get inside the structure. Smoke continued to pour from the windows and doors out into the street, causing curious neighbors to don facemasks while they watched what has happening.
