James Wood, a lieutenant at the Mountain View Fire Protection District, said that his family's motto right now is "kick cancer's tushie." The motto is appropriate for Wood's 3-year-old son Kannon, who was diagnosed with leukemia on Nov. 30. The district is holding a blood drive for Children's Hospital of Colorado on Monday in order to raise awareness about the hospital's need for blood and platelet donations to help kids like Kannon. Wood said that hearing Kannon's diagnosis was unnerving for him and his wife, Jolene, who is a medically retired fire medic from the district. "It's about the second-worst news I could ever imagine receiving as a parent. It's a pretty devastating blow," Wood said.
