PHOTOS: A grass fire is out after burning 20 acres near an eastern Colorado school on Monday afternoon.
According to Hugo Fire Protection District officials, they were alerted to a grass fire burning near the Genoa-Hugo School in Lincoln County at around 1:30 p.m. When fire crews arrived, they said the flames had already spread to a row of trees on the northwest side of the school.
Hugo Fire officials said despite the quick spread of the fire, a fire line was quickly established and containment was reached. Officials said no structures were lost to the fire, only vegetation.
According to school officials, the Genoa-Hugo School was evacuated at around 2 p.m. School officials said on social media that all students were evacuated from the building in less than three minutes. By 3:15 p.m., the school shared to social media that all students had been picked up.
