A request for $25,000 for a search consultant to help find the next fire chief was withdrawn by the Board of Fire Commissioners. The Board of Finance had the request on its agenda Wednesday night but took no action since it had been withdrawn at the request of Michael Bunko, chairman of the fire board. The withdrawal took place within 24 hours of the meeting so the item remained on the agenda. In June, a similar request by the fire board was rejected in a 3-2 vote of the finance board. Bunko said last week that he felt he didn’t make a good enough case for hiring a professional search firm rather than having the job done by town staff.
