Much of the city was in a state of gridlock Monday morning after a tractor trailer crash closed down portions of Interstate 84 for nearly six hours. The crash occurred around 6 a.m. westbound between Exits 3 and 2. While the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and heavy delays resulted, no major injuries were reported from the crash. The driver of the truck was taken to Danbury Hospital. However, the truck stretched across all three lanes of traffic and emergency crews closed the highway for several hours while they began efforts to move the truck off the interstate. The incident caused traffic throughout secondary streets in Danbury as motorists attempted to find other ways around the accident. For most of the morning commute, two of the lanes remained closed. It was shortly before noon when emergency officials reopened the third lane to traffic.
