A large fire destroyed a vacant home on the corner of Cheshire Street and Marks Place Tuesday evening. The fire also damaged a neighbor’s garage. Fire chief Jack Casner said there were no reported injuries. Firefighters responded to the area of Cheshire Street and Marks Place about 8:45 p.m. for a report of a house fire. Casner said the home was unoccupied at the time and was fully involved when firefighters arrived. The house was also reportedly being renovated. A neighbor’s garage caught fire from radiant heat and was significantly damaged. Firefighters were monitoring the garage because propane tanks were reportedly inside. Residents from several nearby homes were evacuated. Firefighters from Prospect and Wolcott responded for mutual aid.
