A swift response by Stamford firefighters stopped a fire from spreading to a multi-story apartment house and the Peruvian Billiard Club late Saturday night.
The fire was reported at 11:32 p.m. at a building at 745 Atlantic St., according to Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Tripodi.
“Upon arrival a fire was found in a makeshift kitchen constructed between two buildings and used as a kitchen for a neighboring social club,” Tripodi said in a release.
“According to the investigating fire marshal, the fire started when cooking oil ignited and the resulting fire spread to the building itself. The fire was quickly extinguished by the first arriving fire company, which arrived within three minutes of dispatch and was contained to the makeshift structure.”
