The police and fire departments are in the process of switching to a new software system for dispatch and records management in an effort to save money long term.
The town has negotiated a contract with Nexgen Solutions, an East Haven-based company, for the new software, commonly referred to as “CAD (computer-aided dispatch)” and “RMS (records management system).” For the last 20 years, the town has used software from a Michigan-based company, New World Systems, according to Police Chief William Wright.
The Nexgen software will cost $305,000, which will be paid in three installments of $70,000 over a three-year period, in addition to an initial deposit of $95,000, Wright said.
