No evidence has been found that Tuesday night’s fire that destroyed an apartment building was set, police reported Thursday.
The cause of the fire at 42 Connerton St. remains undetermined, said Fire Marshal Donald King.
On Thursday morning, the building’s doors and windows were boarded up, with blue sky showing through where the roof used to be.
Three firefighters were briefly trapped on the top floor of the three-story building when they became disoriented, but were quickly rescued by fellow firefighters.
Shortly afterward, all firefighters were called out of the building and continued to work from outside.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital, but later released.
None of the occupants of the three-story, six-unit building were home when the fire broke out. All had been staying at the Red Roof Inn the day before, interim Fire Chief Peter Margentino said, due to a furnace issue.
