Police have recovered the body of a kayaker who disappeared last week while boating on Long Island Sound, a spokesman for the state’s environmental protection agency said Tuesday.
William Zadrozny, 18, of Clinton was last seen in a kayak between 3:30 and 3:40 p.m. May 28, Memorial Day. Officers from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and Old Saybrook recovered his body off the coast of Old Saybrook on Tuesday morning, spokesman Chris Collibee said.
The green and blue West Marine kayak was found between breakwalls on May 28, Old Saybrook firefighters said. The water temperature was about 56 degrees that day, Collibee said, and the average person can survive only about 20 hours in water that cold.
