It took about 20 firefighters to extinguish a tractor on fire in a garage Wednesday, officials said. Fire units from the Monroe, Stepney and Stevenson fire departments responded to 189 Monroe Turnpike for a front loader tractor on fire in the garage, Fire Marshal William Davin said. Online records indicated that D.R. Charles Environmental Construction, Polar Environmental and Red Maples Nursery are located at that address. When the first firefighter got to the scene, the fire was already well under way, Davin said. “The tractor was parked in the hoop-style garage/shop for the evening after being used for the day,” he said. The tractor’s front end loader was destroyed in the fire, which took about 20 firefighters 15 minutes to get under control. The hoop garage coverage also had a hole burned through the roof. Davin estimated the fire did around $100,000 in damage.
