One person was sent to the hospital Wednesday morning after his vehicle left the roadway and tumbled over multiple times, settling back on its wheels just 10 feet away from a pond.
“He’s lucky he didn’t go in the water,” said Dep. Fire Chief Mark McCarthy.
Police, firefighters and an ambulance responded to Memorial Boulevard, near the Riverside Avenue-Blakeslee Street intersection, shortly after 9:30 a.m. There, a Kia Sportage, heading east, left the right side of the roadway and mowed down a street sign. The vehicle left tire tracks that tore through the grass and rolled over multiple times.
The Sportage came to a halt about 10 feet away from the nearby pond, having settled back on its wheels.
McCarthy said the driver, a male, appeared OK after the crash. He said it was unclear why he left the road.
