Firefighters freed someone trapped under a pickup truck after a crash Thursday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m., several fire units were sent to the 70 block of Huntington Turnpike for a crash involving a motorcycle and truck.
“First unit on scene found a motorcycle and its driver completely pinned under a full-size pickup truck,” said Assistant Fire Chief William Hathaway later Thursday.
Police officers were sent to the scene to block off the road and handle crowd control.
Firefighters lifted the truck and used the Jaws of Life to separate the bike from the frame of the truck to free the motorcycle operator, Hathaway said.
“This was a complex extrication and took approximately 15 minutes,” he said. While firefighters worked to free the trapped motorcycle driver, white shields were put up around the victim.
The motorcycle operator, whose age and gender was not immediately released, was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center by ambulance to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash, Hathaway said. The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.
