Now that the application deadline has passed, the city of Norwich has nearly 20 options to choose from for its new fire chief. The city’s Human Resources Director Brigid Marks said Norwich received 19 applications for the position before Friday’s application deadline, of those, four were internal applicants. Marks said she will sit down with City Manager John Salomone on Tuesday to review each of the applications and identify which candidates have the proper qualifications and experience. From there, Marks said they will invite qualified applicants to interview before an oral board consisting of three fire chiefs from other municipalities. Marks said she would likely moderate the oral board, and Salomone would also likely participate. Marks said depending on the number of candidates she and Salomone decide to move forward with, they may first hold screening interviews ahead of the oral board. The fire chiefs participating in the oral board will, based on the interviews, will offer their recommendations to city officials, who will then select the new chief.
