A newborn baby found dead Tuesday morning at a city garbage and recycling facility has renewed calls to raise awareness of the state’s Safe Haven law.
Stamford Police Lt. Thomas Scanlon said a City Carting employee found the baby at the company’s Glenbrook processing plant around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday. An autopsy will be conducted to determine how the boy died and if he was stillborn, Police Capt. Richard Conklin said. Scanlon said investigators have not determined the origin of the recyclables that were sorted Tuesday morning at the Taylor Reed Place facility. He said the materials came from Stamford, Greenwich, Somers, N.Y., Oyster Bay, N.Y., and Andover, Mass.
A spokesman for City Carting could not be reached for comment. An employee who answered the phone at its corporate offices on Viaduct Road declined to comment.
