West Haven Fire Department Chief James O’Brien has identified the man who died in Saturday’s two-alarm fire on Richards Street as Patrick Bourque, 66.
Fire Marshal Keith Flood determined the cause of the fire in a distinctive, fuscia-colored house at Richards Street and North Union Avenue was accidental.
“We’re looking at an electrical failure in the basement (as the likely cause),” he said Monday.
A spokeswoman for the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said the office had yet to determine Bourque’s cause of death, which was listed as “pending further study.”
Bourque was in a bedroom in the basement when the fire broke out, said Flood.
Despite the ultimate result, “The guys did a great job of rescuing him out of the basement,” he said.
